Over the years there has been a moving
trend of online searchers. People these days are spending
more time in front of their computers, now especially with
the availability and easy access to the internet. Ten
years back, browsing the internet like we do today was not
so common in the average household. People were searching
for information on literally anything and even more so
today. This gave rise to the demand for reliable search
engines. At a time when the booming "dot com" era
exploded, a little search engine called Google started
making an impression on people for ease of use and quality
search. Finding websites through Google was fast becoming
a trend. Few years later after going public, Google was
moving at the pace of a bullet-train.
Soon enough, the sponsored advertising system was created,
an ingenious system of allowing anyone to advertise on
Google by bidding on keywords. The concept was simple, the
highest bidder per click would have their ads further up
the search listings. Once it become obvious Google was
familiar and more commonly used by online browsers, the
advertising rush took Google by storm. Their heavy
investment began to pay off with a flourish of advertisers
waging war over popular keywords to gain maximum exposure.
It seemed, advertisers were bringing in visitors in huge
numbers for bargain advertising costs. 2003-2005 of
Google’s Adwords system paved way for many to make money
online. I’m talking easy money, very easy. Many millions
were made at a time where competition was minute, but
those who made it big, were the first to encounter the
trend on Google. Since then, things have become more
challenging. Keywords were becoming more and more
expensive, such that some were creating heavy losses. The
Pay Per Click and Adwords system as it seems was a success
with many search engines. 95% of Google’s revenue comes
from advertising and that is hundreds of millions in
profit, growing with each consecutive year.
Today the Adwords system has become
more dynamic and complex, but at the same time advertisers
were getting smarter. Even Google provide in-house,
state-of-the-art tools to help advertisers control their
costs more effectively and maximize return. As the trend
of ‘Googling’ online to find relevant websites for online
searchers continues, more and more hidden, untapped niches
are evolving. Businesses chase after where the consumer
bounces off to. Few years back, everyone were coming
online and businesses followed suite. Today there are more
people online than ever before and according to Mintel
records, 79% of home users excluding third world countries
will be up and running online by 2009. Multi-billion
dollar corporations from the likes of Google, to Yahoo, to
Microsoft are working persistently investing and spending
huge amounts of time and money into developing more
advanced systems of bringing advertisers to consumers.
Although we’ve seen some pretty amazing technology over
the past few years of this revolution…the search doesn’t
stop here, it has only begun.
